May temperatures in Seville average around 20°C (68°F) across the month, with daytime highs reaching 27°C (81°F) and cooler nights dropping to around 13°C (55°F). Rain is possible but unlikely to be a major factor; most showers are brief, and the sun returns quickly.

Weather Averages for May in Seville
These averages are a reliable guide for most years, though May can occasionally surprise with an early heat spike. Most of the time, though, you can expect warm, bright weather that is easy to plan around.

Average High and Low Temperatures in May
- High: 27°C (81°F)
- Low: 13°C (55°F)
Temperatures climb steadily through the month. Early May is warm but still moderate.
By the end of May, Seville can feel like the start of summer, with the afternoon heat building noticeably.
In exceptional years, temperatures have pushed into the 35–38°C (95–100°F) range during heat waves, though your visit to Seville will have pleasantly warm conditions rather than extreme heat.
Late May is the point where you start to notice Seville edging towards its hotter season.
Seville Weather in Early May
Seville weather in early May is warm and largely settled, though there’s still a chance of occasional showers left over from spring. Temperatures in the first week tend to hover around 22–24°C (72–75°F) during the day, with pleasant evenings.
It’s a good time to be in Seville. Not too hot, plenty of sunshine, and parks and gardens still looking their best from the spring rains.
If you want warm weather without the stronger heat that can build later in the month, early May is a particularly nice time to come.
It’s also one of the nicest times for walking through Santa Cruz or María Luisa Park when everything still feels green and fresh from spring.

Good To Know
If Feria de Abril has been bumped into early May due to the Easter calendar, the city will also be in full festival mode at this point.
Seville Weather in Mid-May
By mid-May, the weather has usually settled into a reliable pattern. Days are warm and mostly sunny, the risk of rain drops further, and the long evenings make it easy to pack a lot into each day.
This is one of the most comfortable periods for sightseeing, as temperatures are high enough to feel like a proper holiday but not yet at the level where midday becomes a challenge.
For many people, this is the sweet spot within the month.
Seville Weather Late May / End of May
Seville’s weather at the end of May starts to feel more like early summer. Temperatures push towards the high 20s regularly, and the UV index is firmly in very high territory.
Late May, you should be prepared for real heat in the early afternoon and plan sightseeing accordingly. Early mornings and evenings are the best times to be out and about.
That said, it’s still well short of the July peak, and the long days make it an excellent time to visit.
This is usually the point where lunch in the shade and a slower afternoon start to make a lot more sense. By late May, you start to understand why Seville shifts towards slower afternoons and later evenings once summer gets closer.

Hours of Daylight in May
There are an average of 14 hours of daylight in Seville in May.
Sunrise happens between 7:28 am and 7:05 am, getting earlier through the month. Sunset falls between 9:14 pm and 9:38 pm, getting gradually later.
That’s a long day. May is one of the best months for fitting a lot in; a morning visit to the Alcázar, a long lunch, more sightseeing in the afternoon, and still having a warm, light evening ahead of you.
It is a very easy month for slow travel days that still end up feeling full.
Rainfall in May in Seville
May averages around 41mm of rainfall spread across roughly 6 days.
That’s less rain than April, and significantly less than the winter months.
Most showers are short-lived and clear quickly, so it’s worth packing a small umbrella or packable rain jacket, but rain is unlikely to derail your plans.
In most cases, it is something to be aware of rather than something to worry about.
Humidity in May in Seville
Humidity sits at around 59% in May, lower than the spring months and comfortable for most people.
It doesn’t usually have the heavy, sticky feeling you get in more humid climates.
Afternoons tend to be drier than mornings. That helps the warmer temperatures feel more manageable than you might expect.
UV Index in May
The UV index in May averages 8, which is classed as very high.
May catches a lot of visitors off guard because the temperature still feels moderate, especially early in the month, but the sun is already strong. Wear SPF, bring a hat, and try to avoid direct sun between 11 am and 3 pm. Staying hydrated is important, too.
There are drinking fountains throughout the city, and the tap water in Seville is safe to drink. It is very easy to underestimate the sun in May, especially if there is a breeze or the morning starts off cool.
The heat can still feel deceptively manageable in May, which is exactly why people often end up more sun-tired than they expected by late afternoon.
Wind Speed in May in Seville
Seville’s climate generally isn’t known for high winds at any period of the year, except during instances of storms. This holds true even in May.
The average wind speed is about 11 km/h (7 mph), a speed considered quite light.

What to Wear in Seville in May
It’s always worth checking the forecast before you leave, but generally, here’s what to pack for May.
- Light summer clothes work well for daytime in May, especially from mid-month onwards. T-shirts, linen shirts, shorts, and lightweight dresses are all appropriate.
- Evenings are warmer than April, but it can still feel cooler once the sun goes down, so a light cardigan or jacket is worth having for later in the evening.
- Comfortable walking shoes are essential. You’ll cover a lot of ground on foot, and after rain, the cobbled streets can be slippery.
- A packable umbrella is worth tucking into a bag, but you probably won’t need it every day. Sunscreen and a hat are more important than a rain jacket by this point in the year.
- If you are visiting in late May, pack more like early summer than spring.
- Loose, breathable clothes make a much bigger difference than you might expect once you’re out walking on stone streets and open plazas in the afternoon sun.
- For evenings out, smart casual works well across most restaurants and bars in the city.

Planning Tip
If Feria de Abril is happening late in the season, make sure you bring something suitable to wear.

Things to Do in Seville in May

Some highlights for May:
- Visit the Real Alcázar and its gardens, which are particularly beautiful in late spring
- Spend time in Parque de María Luisa. It’s one of the best parks in the city, and lovely on a warm May afternoon and incredibly photogenic
- Take a bike ride along the Guadalquivir river while the weather is still comfortable for it
- Take a day trip to Fuente de Piedra to see the flamingos (around 90 minutes east of Seville)
- Head to Rio Tinto to see the striking red and orange waters (around 90 minutes north of Seville)
May is one of the best months for day trips and outdoor activities, before the summer heat makes being out in the middle of the day a challenge.
If you like seeing cities on foot, May is much easier than the hotter months that follow. It’s one of the few months when you can comfortably do a full day out in Seville without constantly looking for shade or air conditioning.
One of the easiest day trips from Seville is to Cordoba. Head there in May, and you might catch the Fiesta de los Patios de Córdoba, where the city’s patios and terraces are decorated with flowers.

May Events in Seville
May is an active month on the Seville calendar. Depending on when Easter falls, one of the city’s biggest festivals may also spill into May.
If your dates line up with any of these events, expect the city to feel busier and hotel prices to rise.
Feria de Abril (April Fair)
Despite its name, Feria de Abril sometimes takes place at the start of May when Easter falls late. It begins two weeks after Semana Santa, so if Holy Week runs into late April, Feria follows into May.
The fairground comes alive with hundreds of colourful striped tents (casetas), live music, Sevillanas dancing, horses, and celebrations that run until the early hours.
Weather-wise, May is excellent for Feria: warm enough to be outside late, but usually still more comfortable than peak summer.

Good To Know
Always check the exact dates for the year you’re travelling. They change every year.
La Cruz de Mayo (May Cross Festival)
Neighbourhoods across Seville decorate crosses with flowers and compete for the best display.
It’s a traditional local celebration that gives you a different side of the city’s culture, away from the big tourist sites. It is also a nice excuse to see more residential parts of the city in good weather.
Romería del Rocío
One of the most striking religious pilgrimages in Spain is to the village of El Rocío in the Doñana region to venerate the Virgin del Rocío. Many pilgrims pass through the province of Seville on horseback or in decorated wagons over several days.
Even if you don’t make the journey to El Rocío, you’ll likely see groups of pilgrims in traditional dress setting off from the city. It’s a genuinely spectacular sight.
If you’re in Seville at the right time, it can add a lot of atmosphere to the city.
Corpus Christi
A religious procession that takes place on the second Thursday after Pentecost. The streets of Seville are decorated with flowers and aromatic plants for the procession to pass through. Worth seeing if your dates align.
As with the other spring events, check the exact dates in advance.
