Is It Too Hot in August in Seville?

It’s seriously hot! During the day, the average temperature is around 36°C (96.8°F), but in more recent years, it’s been reaching the low to mid-40s (104-113°F) for much of the month.

On these insanely hot days, there have been bouts when the nights don’t cool off much either, rarely dipping below the high 20s (77°F).

Due to the intense weather in Seville in August, the city can feel like a ghost town as many locals head to the coast to escape the swelter.

I totally adjust my daily routine during summer in Seville to accommodate for the insane temperatures. Plan to do most errands (or sightseeing) early in the morning, and then spend the afternoon when the heat is unbearable somewhere cool.

What’s the Weather Like in Seville in August?

The weather in August in Seville is hot and dry.

There’s no getting away from the heat – especially in the afternoons when most people will be taking shelter inside cool airconditioned rooms with the shutters down to keep the heat out. 

If you struggle with the heat then we suggest visiting Seville at a different time of the year.

👉 Insider Tip: When you’re deciding where to stay in Seville during the summer months, try to opt for a room on a lower floor (the ground floor is the coolest).

Also, make sure there’s air conditioning, some of the old-style accommodations and guest houses might only have a ceiling fan!

The temperatures in Seville throughout August are consistently hot. Average daytime highs are around 36°C (97°F) although most likely higher. The past few years it’s been insane here and sticking in the 40s (100+°F) for several days.

The most comfortable time of the day is the early morning. We recommend getting up early for sightseeing. You’ll really start to feel the temperature by about 11 am. 

Afternoons are best spent indoors – either visit attractions with air-con or take advantage of the afternoon siesta until after the sun has set.

Days are long with between 13 and 14 hours of daylight.

Start as early as possible. Even though the days are long, you’ll lose a chunk of sightseeing time if you take a siesta during the peak heat.

What to Wear in Seville in August 

August in Seville is insanely hot.

✔️ Pack lightweight clothing to wear during the day – I always opt for loose-fitting clothing (floaty dresses are great!), linens and anything breathable. 

✔️ You’ll also want to bring a hat with a wide brim, or at least a cap to keep the sun off your face. 

✔️ You won’t need a jacket at all – perhaps only if you’re doing a long journey on an air-conditioned coach.

✔️ A fan is also really useful – if you don’t have one, don’t panic, there are plenty of places in the city which sell beautiful fans.

✔️ Bring comfortable footwear for walking around the city – there are cobblestones everywhere – tennis shoes and Birkenstocks are both good options.

Although the average high daytime temperature is 36°C (96.8°F), we do recommend checking the weather forecast as the past few years have been much hotter than that. 

Things to do in Seville in August

Visiting Seville in August can feel like a double-edged sword. 

On one side, it’s insanely hot so can feel quite uncomfortable plus lots of things shut down for summer. The flip side is that the city is much quieter than at other times of the year, so early mornings can be a great time to get out and get stunning photos of Seville with no one in them.

  • If you’re travelling with kids, then Agua Magica Water Park is a great option.
  • Escape the crazy heat and visit some of the city’s great museums and galleries – most of them have strong air conditioning!

  • Escape the heat and do what the locals do and go to the beach – one of the most accessible beaches to Seville is Cadiz.
