1. Plaza de España

Looking for the most Instagrammable places in Europe? Plaza de España in Seville is a top contender.

This monument is a blend of Moorish and Renaissance styles. Every part of it is covered with intricate ceramic tiles, arches, sculptures and columns that play hommage to Spain’s rich history.

Running parallel is a canal that follows the semi-circular shape of the building. There are several ornate bridges crossing over. Along the inner edge of the Plaza de España, you’ll find decorative tiles dedicated to the provinces in Spain.

The building looks particularly nice at sunset when the colour of the red bricks is enhanced.

If you see only one thing during your trip to Seville, make sure you visit one of the most photographed places in Europe.

2. Royal Alcazár de Sevilla

Our second Seville photo location spot is the Royal Alcazar. 

The style here is called Mudéjar,, which is a fusion of Moorish and Christan architectural styles. You’ll find intricate plasterwork and colourful tilework on every surface.

When you visit, you’ll get to explore the various rooms and courtyards, eventually leading out to the garden. The whole place is a photographer’s delight

Two of our favourite places here are the Patio de las Doncellas and the Salón de los Embajadores.

3. Casa de Pilatos

Another one of the best Seville Instagrammable locations is Casa de Pilatos.

This Andalusian palace blends Renaissance, Mudejar, and Gothic styles. Similar to the Alcazar, every surface is covered with colourful azulejos (tiles) and intricate details that make every shot pop.

You’ll find a mix of tiled courtyards with fountains and seasonal flower-filled gardens.

4. Palacio de las Dueñas

Another one of our top 5 spots is at this gorgeous palace.

If you want to see inside an Analucian home from a bygone era, then include Palacio de las Dueñas in your Seville itinerary.

This is the former residence of the Duke and Duchess of Alba. It is both an artistic and architectural gem with its tapestry-filled rooms, ornate furniture, and old paintings.

The buildings are dispersed with tile-adorned courtyards or tranquil gardens filled with fountains and flora – an idyllic escape from city noise.

5. Parque de María Luisa

Parque de María Luisa, located next to Plaza de España.

This is the largest park in the city centre – and the most ornate park in Seville. You’ll find various ponds with fountains, charming bridges, pergolas covered in flowers and beautiful pavilions.

The park also has a diverse mix of flora, including fragrant roses and towering palms.

A great thing about this park is that there are plenty of secluded spots which makes it perfect for getting pics of Seville, Spain without tons of people in them!

6. Plaza de América

Located in the southern end of Parque de María Luisa is one of our favourite plazas because it’s where you’ll find three of Seville’s most gorgeous buildings.

The Museum of Popular Arts, the Archaeological Museum, and the Royal Pavilion, each boasting diverse styles from Neomudéjar to Renaissance.

The buildings each have intricate patterns and colourful facades with floral courtyards, and fountains.

7. Murillo Gardens

Named after renowned painter Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, this city garden shares a wall with the Alcazar Gardens.

Murillo Gardens is a much more regimental park than Maria Luisa. Paths follow a grid-like pattern but are separated by planted areas. We suggest heading to the more interesting end of the park – to the north – where you’ll see the ancient and gigantic fig trees.

8. Catedral de Sevilla and La Giralda.

Whether you take your Seville Cathedral photos from the outside, inside or on the roof, you won’t be disappointed.

Catedral de Sevilla is one of the world’s grandest Gothic cathedrals and the largest cathedral by volume.

Inside,  you’ll find elaborate carvings, towering pillars, and stained glass windows.

Our favourite part is the view from the La Giralda. This spot is one of the best views in Seville, looking down on old town rooftops, streets, and landmarks.

For a different perspective, join one of the rooftop tours – take note that it’s quite cramped, so if you have a fear of heights or tight spaces, then we don’t recommend doing this particular tour.

9. Plaza del Cabildo

For a Seville hidden gem, visit Plaza del Cabildo.

This quaint square, just moments away from the bustling centre, is often overlooked because it is tucked away down an alley.

We use the term ‘square’ in the loosest sense here because it’s actually semi-circular in shape. Surrounding the edges are decorative colonnades with pretty painted detailing and flower-clad balconies.

There’s also a fabulous Sunday market here selling antiques and artwork.

10. Archivo de Indias

Located right in the heart of the city is the Archivo de Indias. Here, you can explore thousands of documents that delve into Spain’s colonial past.

Although the view from the outside is nice – it’s the inside that we particularly like here.

Inside, you’ll find spacious halls with high arched ceilings, filled with books and files that meticulously document Spain’s colonial history.

11. Seville’s Historic Old Town (Barrio Santa Cruz)

Barrio Santa Cruz is a labyrinth of gorgeous cobble-stoned streets, squares, and ancient buildings dating back hundreds of years.

One of the best things to do in Seville is to enjoy getting lost in this district and seeing what gorgeous places you stumble upon – we can spend hours exploring this area, even after all this time in Seville, we find something new here.

Location: Centre of Seville – the area surrounding the Cathedral and Alcazar up to Murillo Gardens.

12. Calle Agua

Calle Agua dates back to when Seville was a Roman settlement called Hispalis.

The Romans constructed water canals, known as aqueducts, to transport water throughout the city. These aqueducts were later expanded by the Moors after they conquered Seville in the 8th century.

The name ‘Calle Agua‘ translates to ‘Water Street’. Over time, Calle Agua has transformed into a lively pedestrian street with souvenir shops and restaurants.

Located in Barrio Santa Cruz, this famous pedestrian street stretches 140 meters between Plaza de Alfaro and Calle Vida.

13. Museo de Bellas Artes de Sevilla

For one of the most beautiful Seville pictures, visit the Museo de Bellas Artes de Sevilla.

This museum, housed in a 17th-century convent, boasts stunning architecture and serene courtyards perfect for photography.

Inside, it houses a large collection of Spanish art, including works by Murillo and Zurbarán, offering ample photo opportunities.

Although we love this museum, unarguably, one of the best photos is the stunning ceiling fresco – it’s worth visiting just to see this!

14. Metropol Parasol (Las Setas de Sevilla)

Compared to all the ancient stuff in the city, this is one of the more unusual attractions in Seville. Yes, it does look a little out of place among all of Seville’s historic buildings, and when it was built there was quite a bit of controversy.

Love it or hate it, the Metropol Parasol is one of the most recognised landmarks in Seville.

It’s affectionately known as “Las Setas de Sevilla” or the “Mushrooms of Seville, thanks to its organic shape.

The walkway at the top is worth visiting for beautiful views of Seville. We recommend going at sunset, and then waiting for the light show when the monument is lit up.

15. Torre del Oro

Also known as the “Golden Tower”, the Torre del Oro dates from the 13th century. It once formed part of the city walls. The watch tower protected the city from invaders and oversaw the ships that sailed on the Guadalquivir River.

The tower got its name from the beautiful golden reflection it created on the water. It was originally covered in golden tiles hence its name.

Inside there is a small nautical museum. Climb to the top for a panoramic view, or simply snap some gorgeous photos of its exterior.

16. Palacio de la Condesa de Lebrija

This stunning palace is located in the heart of Seville, Spain. The Palacio de la Condesa de Lebrija dates back to the 16th century.

In the 19th century, it was acquired by Doña María Josefa Vargas y Acuña, who transformed it into a palace fit for royalty.

She added intricate mosaics, beautiful gardens, and stunning architectural features which create a dazzling atmosphere for your photos.

17. Palacio de Los Marqueses de Salinas

Another of Seville’s gorgeous palaces is the Palacio de Los Marqueses de Salinas.

This palace dates back to the 16th century and features a mix of Renaissance and Mudéjar styles. It’s filled with arches, decorative ceilings, and colourful tiles.

18. Hospital los Venerables

Located in the Barrio Santa Cruz district is one of the best examples of Seville’s Baroque architecture – it has a fascinating history too.

The hospital was built in the 17th century by a group of priests who wanted to help the poor and the sick. The architect, Leonardo de Figueroa, wanted to create a beautiful and harmonious space – and he certainly achieved that.

Although we love the art collection and the pretty courtyard here, what makes it stand out for us is the church.

You don’t have to be religious to be in awe at the detailing here. You also don’t have to pay anything to visit, IF you go during their free access hours.

The walls and ceiling are covered in intricate frescoes and paintings by famous Spanish Baroque artists such as Murillo and Valdés Leal – also look out for the beautiful altarpiece, made of more than 20,000 pieces of polychromatic tiles!

19. Patio de Banderas

This open courtyard is part of the Alcazar of Seville that we mentioned at the start of this article.

The name of the courtyard means translates to “Courtyard of Flags,” and was once used for important ceremonies. Today, it’s open for the public to enjoy.

The Patio de Banderas has plenty of angles and perspectives to capture the city. We particularly like the two arched entrances to the square – you’ll find them on opposite corners.

20. Puerta del León

The Puerta del León is the most iconic entrance gate to the Alcazar of Seville.

The gate is named after the lion that watches over it.  It was built in the 14th century and has undergone various renovations and restorations throughout history.

Everyone who visits the Alcazar will have to walk through this gate in the vibrant red wall flanked by two towering structures.

21. Portillo de la Muralla

Keep your eyes peeled for Portillo de la Muralla! This gate was once part of the old city walls that protected Seville from invaders.

The walls that once surrounded the city were built in the 11th century. Only sections of these walls exist today. The gate forms a beautiful archway often overlooked by passersby.

22. Plaza de San Francisco

This lively square in the heart of the city has been a central meeting place for locals and tourists alike for centuries.

The square is dominated by the magnificent Seville Town Hall, which overlooks the square.

Throughout the year, it hosts various events and festivals, including one of the city’s main Christmas light displays and gathering point for New Year celebrations.

23. Puente de Isabel II 

The Puente de Isabel II – or the Puente de Triana as the locals call it – connects the old city with the lively Triana neighbourhood.

The iconic iron bridge is a great spot to photograph Seville’s architecture with river views. On warm evenings, you’ll find a mix of people chilling by the riverbanks.

The Seville side of the bridge is also one of the best places to watch the sunset in Seville. And the bridge looks pretty lit at night too!

24. Arco de la Macarena

This pretty yellow-coloured gateway dates back to the 16th century. It’s one of the few gates into Seville that still survives – it’s still attached to one of the longest stretches of the ancient city walls.

It is located in a neighbourhood in the north of the old city. The Macarena Arch is also known as Puerta de la Macarena or Arco de la Esperanza (Gate of Hope).

Maquiavelo is one of our favourite terrace bars in Seville, Spain.

While there is an indoor seating area, the real highlight is the outdoor space.

The terrace is on various platforms, with a central pool surrounded by trees and foliage. There are intimate seating booths dotted around.

During the day, the ambience is relaxed, but as evening descends it gets lively. Expect dancers twirling poi, mesmerizing fire juggling, and a live DJ setting the mood.
